  7. INTRODUCTION:

  9. This document contains important information related
  10. to your new purchase.  Please take a few moments to
  11. familiarize yourself with its contents.
  12.  
  13. To read this important information again at a later
  14. date, follow these steps.
  15.  
  16. 1.  Press the Start button.
  17. 2.  Select Programs.
  18. 3.  Choose the program folder that contains QuickVerse.
  19. 4.  Choose QuickVerse 7.0 Read Me.
  20.  
  21. To print this information at a later date, follow the
  22. four steps above, then select Print from the File
  23. menu.
  24.  
  25. If you are viewing this file with a Windows word 
  26. processor, you may find that it is easier to read if 
  27. you select a monospaced font, such as the Courier 
  28. New TrueType font.

  32. QUICK TRIP TUTORIAL:
  33.  
  34. Your QuickVerse product includes a Quick Trip Tutorial
  35. which provides a helpful introduction to your
  36. new product.
  37.  
  38. Whether you are upgrading from a previous version of
  39. QuickVerse, or if you have never used QuickVerse before, 
  40. the Quick Trip Tutorial will introduce you to your 
  41. new software.

  44.  
  45. NEW IN QUICKVERSE 7.0
  46.  
  47. ANNOTATIONS:
  48. 1.  Cut, copy, and paste buttons have been added to the Notes
  49.     tool bar for ease of editing your notes.
  50. 2.  You can now print a range of Annotations by selecting a 
  51.     node in the Annotations treeview.
  52. 3.  Annotations now has a backup/restore utility to safe-guard
  53.     your notes.
  54.  
  55. COPY/PRINT PASSAGE:
  56. 1.  An option, "Include Associated Verse Notes," under "Enhanced
  57.     Copy Option" has been added so you can include your verse 
  58.     notes when copying or printing verses.
  59. 2.  You can now collect copied passages in a file using the 
  60.     Copy To option in Copy Passage.
  61.  
  62. STUDYWORKBOOKS:
  63. 1.  The StudyWorkBooks window can now be minimized to return 
  64.     to your favorite Bible translation. A scroll bar has been 
  65.     added to enable you to read the whole title of the 
  66.     StudyWorkBook.
  67.  
  68. OTHER FEATURES:
  69. 1.  From Options/Colors/Bible Red Text Replacement you have 
  70.     the ability to change red Bible text.
  71. 2.  A reference trail interface that allows you to see every 
  72.     verse you have looked up in the Lookup Bar.
  73. 3.  QuickVerse will copy CMP files to the hard drive.

  76. WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR OLD QUICKVERSE SOFTWARE:

  84. If this software was purchased as an upgrade to a
  85. previous version of the software, then your software
  86. license covers both the new AND the old software.
  87. As a result, it is unlawful to sell or donate the 
  88. previous version to any party.

  90. It is recommended that you store your previous
  91. version in a dry, safe place.  If you ever need to
  92. reinstall QuickVerse 7.0, you may need the older
  93. CDs and/or floppy disks to complete the upgrade
  94. portion of the installation.

  123. WORD PROCESSOR MACROS:
  124.  
  125. QuickVerse supports Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE), which
  126. can be used by other programs to allow interaction 
  127. with QuickVerse.
  128.  
  129. Word processors are an example of programs that can
  130. often use DDE to interact with QuickVerse.  This
  131. interaction is "programmed" into the word processor
  132. via macros.
  133.  
  134. If you would like to learn more about using DDE with
  135. your word processor, first read the DDE.TXT file
  136. provided with your QuickVerse product.  Then refer
  137. to your word processor's documentation for information
  138. about writing macros and using DDE.
  139.  
  140. Macros that have already been written for some versions
  141. of word processing programs may already be available.
  142. Visit the QuickVerse Internet site to see if a macro
  143. is available for your word processor.

  153. NEW AMERICAN STANDARD BIBLE:
  154.  
  155. In 1995, the Lockman Foundation released an update to
  156. the New American Standard Bible.  Prior versions of
  157. QuickVerse provided both the "original" and "updated"
  158. versions of this Bible.  The updated version was 
  159. referred to as the "New American Standard Bible, 1995
  160. Edition."
  161.  
  162. The Lockman Foundation is no longer distinguishing
  163. between these two revisions of the NASB.  Current
  164. printed editions of the NASB are the 1995 edition.
  165. Consequently, QuickVerse now offers only this version
  166. of the NASB.  The New American Standard Exhaustive
  167. Concordance has been updated for use with this
  168. edition as well.

  172. CASE SENSITIVE SEARCHING
  173.  
  174. 1.  Case sensitive searches require substantially 
  175.     more processing to complete.  Use a case 
  176.     sensitive search only when it is imperative to 
  177.     distinguish a word by its case, and limit your
  178.     search only to the specific books where the
  179.     case is important.
  180.  
  181. 2.  For the electronic editions of various Bible
  182.     translations published by Parsons Technology,
  183.     the word "LORD", referring to the Old Testament
  184.     Hebrew "Yahweh", has been rendered in all
  185.     capital letters instead of the "small caps"
  186.     style often used by print publishers.  This 
  187.     typographical change is required because letters
  188.     with the small caps style are lower case letters,
  189.     not capital letters.  By using all capital
  190.     letters in the electronic edition, the word 
  191.     "LORD" can be distinguished from "Lord" and 
  192.     "lord" using a case-sensitive search.

  196. INSTALLING BOOKS TO YOUR HARD DRIVE
  197.  
  198. The QuickVerse Setup program will not install the books
  199. to your hard drive.  However, installing the books to your
  200. hard drive is advantageous because (a) reading information
  201. from a hard drive is often faster than reading from 
  202. a CD, and (b) it reduces or eliminates the need to
  203. swap CDs while running the program.
  204.  
  205. To install books to your hard drive, select Library Management
  206. from the File menu.  Drag books from the CD to your hard drive 
  207. to install them.
  208.  
  209. IMPORTANT:  you must use Library Management to perform
  210. the installation.  Do not use the Windows Explorer
  211. to copy books from a CD to your hard drive, as
  212. QuickVerse will not "know" that the files are 
  213. present on the hard drive.

  231. UNLOCK BOOKS AND EXPAND YOUR LIBRARY:
  232.  
  233. In addition to the books that you have already 
  234. purchased, your QuickVerse CD may include additional 
  235. books in a "locked" format.  You can open these books 
  236. but you cannot read the book until you have purchased a 
  237. key for that book. 
  238.  
  239. If you want to learn more about the books that are 
  240. available for you to unlock, and QuickVerse is running,
  241. choose Locked Book Browser from the View menu.  If 
  242. QuickVerse is not running, simply insert any of the 
  243. CDs numbers 2, 3, or 4 in the CD-ROM drive and a browser
  244. will automatically run that gives you information about 
  245. each of the locked books on the CD.
  246.  
  247. The ability to unlock any book at your convenience 
  248. provides several advantages:
  249.  
  250. 1.  The book is available on a CD that you already 
  251.     own, so "CD swapping" is reduced.
  252.  
  253. 2.  The book can be immediately available for use; it 
  254.     is not necessary to ship any additional disks or 
  255.     CDs to you.
  256.  
  257. 3.  You can choose which books interest you; you don't 
  258.     need to buy a whole set of books to obtain the one 
  259.     or two that interest you.
  260.

  263. BUY BOOKS ON THE INTERNET:
  264.  
  265. Several STEP books are available for purchase at the

  277. UNINSTALLING QUICKVERSE, VERSION 4 AND OLDER:
  278.  
  279. After you have installed, used, and grown comfortable
  280. with this new version of QuickVerse, you may desire
  281. to uninstall any 4.0 or older version of QuickVerse that you
  282. have installed.
  283.  
  284. We suggest that you perform a manual uninstall, 
  285. following the steps below.
  286.  
  287. Since QuickVerse 4.0 does not set any registry entries
  288. or install to directories other than its own 
  289. directory, performing a manual uninstall is easy.
  290. You only need to delete the program directory and
  291. remove QuickVerse from the Start menu.
  292.  
  293. To perform the manual uninstall, follow these steps.
  294.  
  295. 1.  Locate the directory that contains QVCUSTOM.DLL.
  296.     This directory will contain an older version of
  297.     QuickVerse.
  298.  
  299. 2.  Verify that any data files that you have created,
  300.     such as note and index files, have been moved 
  301.     from this directory location to another location.  
  302.  
  303.     If you have not done so already, run the "Upgrade
  304.     utility provided with QuickVerse 7.0.
  305.  
  306.     a.  Click the Start button.
  307.  
  308.     b.  Choose Programs, then choose the Program Group
  309.         where you selected to install QuickVerse.
  310.         The default group is 
  311.  
  312.             Parsons > QuickVerse 7 >
  313.  
  314.     c.  Choose the Upgrade shortcut.
  315.  
  316. 3.  When you are satisfied that all of your important
  317.     data has been copied to another location, delete
  318.     the directory containing QVCUSTOM.DLL.
  319.  
  320.     If you have installed additional translations for
  321.     use with QuickVerse 4.0 or older, those 
  322.     translations installed to the QuickVerse directory
  323.     will also be deleted.
  324.  
  325. 4.  Click the Start button.
  326.  
  327. 5.  Choose Settings.
  328.  
  329. 6.  Choose Task Bar & Start Menu.
  330.  
  331. 7.  Choose the Start Menu Programs tab.
  332.  
  333. 8.  Press Remove, then find and remove the old 
  334.     QuickVerse entries from the program menu.  The
  335.     following entries are all associated with 
  336.     QuickVerse 4.0 or older, and can be safely
  337.     removed.

  351. UNINSTALLING QUICKVERSE LIBRARY 1.0
  352.  
  353. Since QuickVerse 7.0 is capable reading all of your 
  354. STEP-compatible books, you no longer need to use the
  355. QuickVerse Library.  You can do everything within
  356. QuickVerse 7.0!
  357.  
  358. After you have installed and used QuickVerse 7.0,
  359. you may want to delete QuickVerse Library 1.0 from
  360. your hard drive.  Even though an automatic uninstall
  361. via the Add / Remove programs feature may be 
  362. available, a manual uninstall is recommended.  Follow
  363. these steps.
  364.  
  365. 1.  Delete the QVLIB directory.  The default 
  366.     location for this directory is:
  367.  
  368.     c:\qv\qvlib
  369.  
  370.     If you installed to a directory other than 
  371.     c:\qv, substitute that directory above.
  372.  
  373. 2.  Delete the BOOKMGR directory.  The default
  374.     location for this directory is:
  375.  
  376.     c:\qv\bookmgr
  377.  
  378.     If you installed to a directory other than 
  379.     c:\qv, substitute that directory above.
  380.  
  381.     NOTE:  books installed via the Book Manager
  382.     program will be imported into QuickVerse 7.0
  383.     the first time that QuickVerse 7.0 is started.
  384.     Once QuickVerse 7.0 has been run at least once,
  385.     the Book Manager files are no longer needed.
  386.  
  387.     If you delete this directory before starting
  388.     QuickVerse at least once, then the information
  389.     about books used with QuickVerse Library 1.0
  390.     will not be available to QuickVerse, and you 
  391.     will need to use "File | Add Books" to add these
  392.     books again.

  394. 3.  DO NOT delete the UNLOCK directory, if present.  
  395.     This directory contains information that will 
  396.     still be used by QuickVerse 7.0.
  397.  
  398. 4.  Click the Start button.
  399.  
  400. 5.  Choose Settings.

  402. 6.  Choose Task Bar & Start Menu.

  404. 7.  Choose the Start Menu Programs tab.

  415. The QuickVerse Library 1.0 added some items to the
  416. system registry and to the Windows "shared files" 
  417. folders.  Many of these files and registry settings
  418. will be used by QuickVerse 7.0 also.  It is 
  419. recommended that these settings and shared files not

  454. 4.  If present, delete the BOOKMGR directory.  The

  458.  
  459.     If you installed to a directory other than 
  460.     c:\qv, substitute that directory above.
  461.  
  462.     NOTE:  books installed via the Book Manager

  490. The QuickVerse Library 2.0 added some items to the
  491. system registry and to the Windows "shared files" 
  492. folders.  Many of these files and registry settings
  493. will be used by QuickVerse 7.0 also.  It is 
  494. recommended that these settings and shared files not 
  495. be removed.

  498.  
  499. IF QUICKVERSE REPEATEDLY ASKS FOR A CD:
  500.  
  501. If you use Windows 95, Windows 98 or Window NT and you
  502. use a 16-bit CD-ROM driver for your CD-ROM drive, then
  503. QuickVerse may be unable to reliably read data from 
  504. your CD drive.  
  505.  
  506. If you experience problems reading from the CD, or if 
  507. QuickVerse repeatedly asks for a CD to be inserted 
  508. even though the CD is already inserted, then the 
  509. problem may be caused by your CD-ROM driver. 
  510.  
  511. 16-bit drivers are designed to work with DOS and 
  512. Windows 3.1, not with Windows 95, 98 or NT.  It is not 
  513. uncommon to experience problems when using these older 
  514. 16-bit drivers with Windows 95, 98 or NT. 
  515.  
  516. How can you know if you are using a 16-bit driver?  
  517. Look in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  If the MSCDEX driver 
  518. is being loaded in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, then you 
  519. are probably using a CD-ROM driver designed for DOS 
  520. and Windows 3.1. 
  521.  
  522. You may also check the Performance tab after clicking 
  523. on the My Computer icon and selecting Properties from 
  524. the popup menu.  If the file system indicates that 
  525. some drives are using MS-DOS compatibility mode, then 
  526. it is possible that you are still using a 16-bit 
  527. CD-ROM driver. 
  528.  
  529. If you find that you are using a 16-bit driver and 
  530. that the QuickVerse Library is unable to read from 
  531. the CD or repeatedly prompts for the CD to be 
  532. inserted, you must install a 32-bit CD-ROM driver 
  533. designed for Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, or ME.  Your 
  534. Windows setup disks (or CD-ROM) may contain the driver 
  535. hat you need. If not, you may be able to obtain a 
  536. driver from either Microsoft or from the maker of 
  537. your CD-ROM drive.  Several companies allow you to 
  538. download the latest drivers from the Internet or from 
  539. online services.  Be sure to ask for a 32-bit driver 
  540. designed for Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, 
  541. Windows 2000 or Windows ME.
  542.  
  543. ------------------------------------------------------
  544.  
  545. IF YOU CANNOT OPEN MAPS IN PARSONS BIBLE ATLAS:
  546.  
  547. For the convenience of those who will copy and then
  548. edit maps using the QuickVerse Map Editor program,
  549. the maps used by the Parsons Bible Atlas use
  550. "long filenames."  That is, the filename of the map
  551. may be "Abraham's Migration from Ur.map" instead of
  552. a more cryptic "ABCD1234.map".
  553.  
  554. While most CD-ROM drivers now support long filenames
  555. on CD, some older drivers may only recognize files
  556. of the older "8.3" format.  An older driver such as
  557. this will not recognize the files on the CD.
  558.  
  559. If you encounter this problem, it will be necessary to
  560. install an updated CD-ROM driver that supports long
  561. file names.  Contact your computer or CD-ROM vendor
  562. for information.
